It's ironic because in the manga, Hiro attempted to let Mitsuru pilot with Zero Two, but he thought back to how Naomi said that he was running away from his partner and himself so he steeled his resolve and got in the machine. I prefer that over this but at least Mitsuru got karmic retribution by nearly getting devoured for attempting to leave his partner and bragging about how he is so much better.

I'm still not satisfied I want him to fail miserably and then everyone abandons him and lose trust with him since he tried ditching his partner then he commits suicide, even if he apologizes in the upcoming episodes I still want him to truly suffer
